Huixquilucan, Temazcal & Naucalpan

Hey bloggers, update number 4 was accompied with our alarm ringing at 5 am.

Waking up in vacations that early was crazy. But with the outlook of a Temazcal and a nice Massage it was definitely worth the hassle. And anyhow… our lovely jetlag raised us up day-after-day.

To the point: our appointment with Ignacio (Nachito), a good friend of Alexis’ family specialized in alternative Medicine, was scheduled at 07:00 in Naucalpan, a 1:15h ride from our house. After finally finding out what a Temazcal is (it’s a prehispanic sauna prepared with specific herbs), we started driving.

Via the carretera cuota (paid highway) the tour took us to a barrio called Huixquilucan – a high-class residential area. Built-up within the last 5 years (!) from scratch, we could gaze at the new and modern skyscrapers. And with “scratch” I mean real scratch: mountains, forests, rivers, no water supply, no electricity, no Wallmarts, no Pemex petrol stations, not even streets.

The neighborhood, same as Naucalpan, is located in the zona conurbana, the suburbs of Mexico City. As you know Mexico City is a gigantic Mega City of ca. 9 mio people, it’s Metropolitan area accumulates more than 21 mio inhabitants.

Huixquilucan in this matter, serves as a residential gateway to the most famous economic and business area of Mexico City Santa Fe. Here dozens of multinationals are located such as: Bosch, Bayer, SCA, 3M, Roche, Modelo, Bimbo, Banamex, Continental 😉 …

Similar to a badly written story about poverty, we continued our ride from the top of the hill with it’s high-society and fancy constructions, down into Naucalpan – it’s direct but more grounded, poorer brother.

Naucalpan gave us a even more stunning view: a huge valley completely covered with houses. Here you could not only see, but also feel that the real and major part of society was home.

At Nacho’s, a somewhat magical house built into and around a massive tree, we first enjoyed our Temazcal.

After that we took a shower and we were ready for a full body massage. When Nachito started doing his magic, he noticed that we needed something more than just the massage… so he used suction cups and placed in our whole back. (Looks weird, but they did their thing!). Meanwhile we had them he focus on arms, legs, feet. After some corrective cracks and an overall duration of more than 2 hours we finished.

Fresh and ultra relaxed, we felt so hungry that we had to visit Toks – one of the best Mexican food franchises ever!

Originally, we planed to spend the rest of the day in DF (Distrito Federal = México City) downtown as we already were close. The treatment, however, was so damn exhausting that we went home and spend the rest of the day with Alexis’ family.

In the end, we had our day highlight and even learned a lot about the zona conurbana. Perfect! – To all of you an awesome and nice start into the week!

Chaufer – no more.

Buenas días chicos, another morning has broken – giving us more chances and moments of happiness. 🙂

One of these great moments in life for me was related to Alexis’ expired driving license: After thousands of driven kilometers, trips to Neustadt, the Steinhudermeer and (for sure) Ikea, it was finally time to quit my life as a chaufer. With great anticipation, we arrived to the office in the center of Metepec, all went down as expected and there it was: my peace of mind.

But honestly: it actually will lead to more flexibility. Maybe I stay longer at work and she can directly pick me up to go somewhere; she can visit some friends without paying 7,20€ for the 2 zones Uestra round-trip; or on a longer trip we might substitute each other – and you know: as DJ, the passenger provides the most sick beats…

To celebrate, we invited Alexis parents and sister for some pizza to “La Cletta“. The place was amazing! A long narrow corridor, painted in pastel colors, cozy and featuring cool pieces of inventory. Also it had, obviously, decorative vintage spare parts of … (ok take your guess) … bicicletas (you smarty pants 😉 ). Ok – it was a bit hipster, but we enjoyed it!

After coming home we had, as late lunch, Huauzontles which is Amaranto plant filled with it’s seeds, Panela cheese and Pasilla (chile) sauce.

Too much food, right? Time to visit Metepecs’ new mall Town Square. As it was brand new we really enjoyed it’s concept. Open, spacious, modern, very green and just beautiful. Even tough many stores were yet to be opened, there were plenty of open ones, a food court and a lot of people enjoying the harmony.

Lastly, we took a stroll, visited our favourite-of-all-time Ciudado con el Perro and had some café/chai latte at Cielito, a mexican competitor of Starbucks.

Overall, it was a great day without many quirks, so I will just let the pictures speak for themselves. Check them out and enjoy!

From Istanbul with love…

Hello amigos, it’s us again: the A&A squad. Enjoy round 2 of our small travel report. 🙂

In the pretty standard and quick flight to Istanbul we were already getting hyped as we heard we will arrive at the new airport! Seen on images and Adrian’s business trip beforehands, it could just be amazing – and it was!

Architecture. OMG, how huge can an airport be? Min. 50m high ceilings, lamps with diameters of 30m and overall vast dimensions. Combined with it’s modern design it was just stunning. (Check out the pics below)

Brand stores and US food franchises. Even though I am (as you may know) not at all into brands and recognition through status, but the amount of stores was crazy. There were the typical fashion brands, electronic stores, duty free shops, cafés, restaurants, lots of US franchises (Carl’s Junior, Popeye’s, Sbarro, …) and of all of it: dozens.

Nevertheless, coming to the true core: prices. For sure they were absolutely spoiled: a 200g pack of lokum (Turkish delight) for 25 Euro? Ich glaube mein Schwein pfeift… you get 500g for ca. 1 Euro (7 Lira) at a Turkish bazar.

Self-explanatory, after taking a long walk, we decided to stay at the nap area. 6h passed in the indeed comfortable seats surrounded by sleeping travel companions.

Recharged and having enjoyed our neat self-made sandwiches, we boarded the aircraft to a unsuspected long but nice flight.

What we can say is: Turkish Airlines really is Premium.

  • All received a welcome Guacamole and fresh juice.
  • They had specialized Mexican menues for the flight.
  • The food was (honestly) really good!
  • They handed-out hygenic sets containing a tooth brush, tooth paste, sleeping mask, socks(!) and slippers (!)
  • And: they had freakin’ fragrances and body lotions at the toilets.

The only minor bummer was a classic vegetarian thing: at lunch distribution we were almost last (all good, all fine for now). But when the friendly steward reached us, they were out of Veggie pasta with only beef or pork left. In a 300 passengers plane with 3 food options, you cannot tell me that you run out of one option 50 passengers before the end?! – but yes they did. Gladly, it might show that people ultimately also chose meat-free pasta and don’t need their daily meat. (Or Turkish Airlines, just calculated it’s forecast damn-bad…).

Well, we then arrived 13h later to Mexico City ❤. Quickly exchanged some money (after surveying rates at some banks) and finally reunited with Alexis Family!!!

On the way home we went to an awesome market, had some Gorditas, Quesadillas and Nieves and let the evening slowly fade away with Sopes, veg. Pozole and cosy cafecitos.

Buenas noches y hasta mañana,

México 2019 – The journey begins…

Hello everybody and a warm welcome to the new blog! 🙂

After Alexis’ German exam and last preparations, today our summer vacations finally started!

First of all, we took the Regio train to Bremen Hbf. On our way, surprisingly, we passed our home city Neustadt a. Rbge. and we had the chance to wave “goodbye”. After a short ride and a quick check-up of the Bremen Hbf, we took the Strassenbahn to Bremen airport.

At arrival we were damn surprised: this is actually a pretty legit airport! New appearance, clean, spacious and in the middle of the city. What do you wish more?

Here the twist: it’s size. You might expect dozens of check-in counters … this airport had literally only 15. Also it did not shine with it’s abundance of gates: A18 appeared to be the highest of dreams.

But, ultimately, who cares!? We prep’ed some neat sandwiches (with our fridge leftovers) at a bakery store and embarked on our journey to Istanbul.

We are excited and so glad to, finally, return to our lovely México!!! Now nothing (except of some hefty flight delays 😉 ) can’t stop us.

¡¡Nos vemos pronto en México, mis compañeros!!
